By Tanisha Gupta
Just to brief you about myself, I come from a family of doctors and engineers with IITians and BITSians, but as for me, I completely turned the hills upside down by choosing a stream of reason and logic from a humanistic point of view. After thorough discussions with my family, I finally chose Humanities/Arts in Class 11th and chose subjects that deeply interested me- Mass Communications, Economics, Entrepreneurship and Psychology, along with English. With proper understanding of these subjects, the academically bright student came out of me, somebody I was not aware of.
Academic disciplines like that of Humanities and Arts, were considered only for the weak-minded or irresolute about the future, but gone are those days when such streams offered limited scope to its students after their high school. Humanities provide a plethora of wide opportunities for students with critical thinking at its utmost priority with sheer management and soft skills. Today, there are ample opportunities that give way for conceptual and contemporary critical analysis of real-life situations. Great minds that we know of - Plato, Aristotle, Sophocles, Homer, etc are the pioneers of such integral courses because of whom we get to the understanding of what art is today.
It is preposterous to assume that the sciences and math do not require such streams, moreover these subjects rely on artistic concepts to explain tough topics, be it the golden ratio, or the Pareto Principle! Usually, therefore, the sciences and the humanities compliment each other!
To understand the work of an artist, today, every noodle that you consume, is referred to as “Maggi”, even if the packaging offered is of another company! That is the power of an artist’s illustration and artistic juxtaposition of creative skills in this ever-changing and competitive world. Any great movie or series that you binge watch, is a work of an artist and the subtle analytical concept that is ingrained into it in order to provide us with insights.
Let us dive into the plethora of options available for you after pursuing with an extraordinary field of arts and humanities-
