No definitely not! Keep in mind that the career you choose should make you happy even after 10 years of doing the same.at that time you dont have the chance to risk but now you have! Put your efforts in the field you love and yes I too felt that there are students who go with the career of their stream but you aren't in a herd that you will chase them! Do not hesitate, explore, find what you love and give it a shot! You won't regret. and also I find students being worried if there's any scope in the thing they wanted to. I always say scope lies within you until you know what you have to do , you are unstoppable. So discover ,learn and rise.
It's a cliché and a well made movie but "Zindagi na milegi Dubara!" There are several famous people who are at epitome of their fields and at some point they decided to take a risk, a leap of faith and chased their dreams. They became the iconoclast and did not let their background (stream in your case) put them down. So if you're going for something you are really interested in, by all means go ahead!
Answering to your question it's NOT at all bad if you choose to take up a course that doesn't identify with your stream the only thing that matters is that you must have an interest in that particular field you are thinking to go for. I was a PCM student then I changed it and opted for humanities and now I am doing law and it has been really good as I have passion for the field I am in right now. Not to brag but I scored second highest percentage in my school in humanities and I've earned good grades in university as well, point being that you just have to have passion, interest and will to work hard and SKY IS NOT THE LIMIT.
