Hi,I am glad you chose to sign up for CFA. However it is important to reason why you want to do CFA? If the reason aligns with your career aspirations and necessary requirement as part of your job, then the following answer may be of help with you.CFA Level 1 preparation is manageable with job or any other full time engagement, considering the areas tested are "basics" across the 10 sections. For explaining the prep, I am assuming you have at least heard these terms such as Fixed Income, Financial Statements, Corporate Finance etc.Resources:There is enough material available for CFA Prep online and offline. To save you from juggling through the infinite material, you may refer to just two resources as mentioned below:1. Schweser Notes (Available @~Rs 1200 for CFA L1 from multiple stores)
2. Video Series by Prof. Irfanullah Either of these resources in conjunction with mocks given by CFA Institute and practice sessions on CFA website is more than enough for your to prepare and crack CFA L1.Method of Preparation:Unlike other exams, CFA resources can be daunting to look at, however curriculum is explained well and it's easy to understand. Compliment every reading with a test at the back of chapter. After one curriculum section is over, it should be coupled with a test at the end of each book or section test on CFA website.Recommended time spent for preparation is 300 Hours. This needs to be modified depending how much time you have till exam from your start timelines. Having said so, following areas do hold a strong weight-age and strongly recommended to be finished first:a. Ethical & Professional Standardsb. Fixed Incomec. Derivatives
d. Alternative Investments
e. Portfolio ManagementThis doesn't mean you can ignore other sections. However, the above sections would relatively be new concepts, take time to understand and needs a second reading as well. Thus to accommodate it all, my recommendation would be to finish these first. For a personalised preparation schedule and doubts, you may book a session with me. Tip: Make a schedule for yourself for first reading and devote at-least 10 hours to each section. Consider 2-3 hours everyday after work and longer duration during weekend to make it 15-20 hours every week. This should allow you to complete one reading along with chapter and sections tests in 4-6 weeks time. Follow up with Mock Tests, and strengthening weak areas.
