CFA is a professional degree like many other in the field of Finance. However, consider CFA if your job or work requires it as a mandatory or preferred requirement. Unless, used in practice the degree itself wouldn't be of much benefit. For the same reason, before giving Charter, CFA Institute requires a candidate to have relevant experience.CFA has three levels to be cleared before you can apply for Charter with CFA Institute. Its a pen and paper exam with different formats across levels. For e.g. Level 3 has long answers as well as MCQs. Each level exam is conducted in two sessions. While the curriculum broadly covers same 10 sections at each level, the depth of the lessons involved keeps changing as you progress from L1 through L3. Steps involved in CFA:1. Register on CFA Website paying one time Registration Fee2. Enrol in Level 1 exam (its conducted twice a year) and the enrolment fee changes depending when you apply. So, enrol as soon as you have decided to apply for it. Give yourself at-least 3 months time period before exam for preparation.3. You cannot change or postpone the exam unless its a valid medical emergency.4. L2 and L3 exams are conducted once a year and thus after you pass previous level, you are given enough time to apply and prepare for each level.5. In my opinion, you do not need an additional coaching for CFA but if that's your preferred mode of preparation, there are enough options available online.Time required:Considering 6 months time for L1 after application and 1 year each for L2 and L3, if all levels are passed in first attempt, clearing all three levels would take a candidate approx 2.5 years. Considering CFA prep is self paced, you can attempt these exams along with job as well.Reach out to me for any specific queries or session on CFA Preparation.Meraki Counselling is a one stop counselling platform catering to Career Counselling, Therapy and Wellbeing and Connecting with Industry Experts.
